RE
In the Junior Department our task in RE is to enable pupils to understand religious ideas, feelings and activities. We recognise the entitlement of all children to a religious education and believe that children should receive a broad and balanced curriculum that:
- Promotes understanding of Christianity and other principal religions represented in Great Britain and thus appreciate the diversity of religious belief and practice and the rights of others to hold beliefs different from their own.
- Understand the continuing influence of religious beliefs, values and traditions on individuals, communities and cultures.
- Develop an understanding of ultimate questions and religious and moral issues, to evaluate different responses to these issues and to form their own reasoned and informed judgements about them.
- Respond to what they learn so as to inform, clarify and develop their own beliefs and values.
Religious Education does not seek to convert pupils to a particular religious viewpoint or tradition or to compromise pupils’ integrity by promoting the view of any one religion as superior to the others. We recognise that RE is part of the basic curriculum and believe that it makes an important contribution to the development of open inquiring minds and the moral and spiritual development of children in our care.
