Development of Cranbrook College and Glenarm College 2011 and beyond
We are pleased to announce the planned integration of Glenarm College and Cranbrook College primary schools into Waverley Lodge, a new single site adjacent to the existing Cranbrook College campus. The two schools share the same founder and integration will bring the schools back to their origins.
The integration of these two schools will allow us to provide the highest standard of education for all pupils, both now and in the future. By bringing together pupils from both schools into our newly acquired facility, there will be a number of clear educational benefits:
• Continuity of education; our school will provide high quality, co-education provision for pupils aged from 3 through to 16, on a single site in the heart of Ilford
• Two-forms of entry from Reception through to Year 11
• There will be a new purpose-built Nursery accommodation with capacity for 13 pupils
• New classrooms will be created, which will be equipped with data projectors, Internet access and new equipment
• There will be a new ICT suite and large multi-purpose hall
• Extra curricular opportunities will be increased
• Dedicated playground space, including a grassed area
• Facilities for before and after-school care will be enhanced
For the benefit of pupils and parents, the integration will be implemented in three stages: -
Phase 1 – Nursery pupils will move into the brand new facility at Waverly Lodge in January 2011, immediately following the completion of the build.
Phase II – Glenarm pupils and Cranbrook Junior and Prep school pupils will move into Waverly Lodge in the Summer Term 2011. For the final term, we will operate a ‘combined school’ structure in that although housed in the new building, the uniform, teachers and curriculum will remain wholly unchanged for the final term.
Phase III – Full integration September 2011. A new uniform, mixed classes and integrated curriculum will be in place for the start of the new academic year.
The new building is an integral part of the 3-18 vision across both schools. The existing Cranbrook College site will be enhanced by the addition of new ICT and science rooms and the plan is for the existing Glenarm College site to be converted into the 6th Form Centre from 2012.
