Water
In this unit children learn about water supply around the world. They learn about the importance of clean water and investigate how it is supplied. They also consider who owns and manages water, and contrast water use at home with use in less economically developed countries.
We answer these questions:
- Where can we find water locally? Where can we find water in the world?
- How does water get to where it is needed?
- Who uses water? What do they use it for?
- Is all water useable? How can water be made useable?
- Who owns water? Who pays for water? What jobs are involved in providing our water?
Rivers
In this unit children learn, through fieldwork and research, about rivers and the effects they have on the landscape. The unit focuses on: the components of the water cycle; how rivers erode, transport and deposit materials to produce particular landscape features; and the characteristics of a river system in another part of the world.
We answer these questions:
- Where does water come from?
- Where does water go to?
- Where is our local river? Where does it go? How is it changing? What do I think and feel about the river?
- What is our local river like? How does it affect the landscape? How is it changing and why?
